Tourist information

Jurandvor was founded in the 16th century out of two separate parts - Cubranic and Juranic. In the centre of Juranic, Jura's court (Jurin dvor) is located, which is why the settlement was named Jurandvor. The main sight is a Church of St. Lucy with Benedictine complex. The church itself is a rare example of Early Croatian sacral architecture with the bell at the front end. It is noted in historical documents that Benedictines-Glagolitic priests built the Abbey of St. Lucy on the remains of the Roman villa, and around year the 1100, abbot Dobrovit built Early Roman church temple. On the left side of the bell-tower, right next to the entrance, old Croatian coat of arms is engraved, while the interior is most famous for two separating blocks. Those block separated the part for the priest from the part for the people, and the one on the left side is Baska Tablet.

Baska Tablet is one of the most valuable national and cultural monuments of the Croats and their language, and it represents Glagolitic inscription carven on white limestone in 13 lines of text which talks about the King Zvonimir's (1075-1089) donation to the Church of St. Lucy. It is the first record of any Croatian ruler in the Croatian language. The Tablet was found in 1851 by Petar Dorcicin. He informed Ivan Kukuljevic Sakcinski of his founding and he represented it to the wider public. It is 99,5 cm tall, 199 cm wide and 7,5 to 9 cm thick. It weighs around 800 kg. Today, the area of Abbey of St. Lucy is one of the main touristic sights on the Island of Krk, and it consists from the church, archaeological park, Benedictine monastery and souvenir shop which offers many interesting items related to the Baška Tablet and Glagolitic Alphabet. Inside the souvenir shop you can purchase the ticket for the whole complex, and after the purchase of the ticket, you can view the 30-minute film about the Baska Tablet and Jurandvor. After the film, the guide will take you to the Church of St. Lucy. New monument - the Baška Glagolitic Path was recently opened in that area. The authors' plan was to make 35 stone sculptures with engraved letters. Four of them were supposed to be larger in size, 30 smaller ones, and one dedicated to Glagolitic Alphabet and all Glagolitic through history. Fortunately, they succeeded in the implementation of their plan.

In the area of few kilometres from Baska, there are several excellent hotels, camps, and private apartments. Most of them are at the sea, near famous Baska beach - Vela plaza. Almost all of them have three or four stars while camps are a little further from the centre of Baska. The most notable hotels are Atrium Residence, Zvonimir Hotel, Villa Adria Baska and Hotel Corinthia, along with camps Car Camp Zablace and Nature Camp Bunculuka.
